Learn to Fly

I will be teaching an arm balance and inversion workshop Friday, Jan. 31 from 7:15-9:15pm at the Highland studio. For all of you that want to get on your hands and learn to fly, this is the perfect opportunity to get some flight time in. All levels are welcome, even if you’re brand new to yoga. If you can do a chatturanga, you can do an arm balance. We will build a foundation from the ground up to help you take flight – learn proper alignment and how to leverage and balance your weight to maximize strength. Terrified of getting upside down? We will explore many options on how to conquer those fears and turn you into an #inversionjunkie.

Exploring Nepal

I’ve been teaching non-stop since we returned from Nepal so finally here is a quick glimpse of our trip. The full documentary hasn’t been released yet, but here is some GoPro footage from the trek. The video really can’t do it justice. We were immersed in the most spectacular views I’ve ever seen. It was one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had, and look forward to returning again.

Come Fly With Me…

Some of the most frequent comments I receive when it comes to skydiving are, “I’m not good enough to jump with you. You wouldn’t want to jump with me. Maybe one day I’ll be able to fly with you… etc.” I’m not sure what some people think I’m made of, but I’m not superhuman. I didn’t come out of the womb flying the way I do. And yes, you abso-f*@%ing-lutely can jump with me, today, right now, this very moment (provided we were both geared up somewhere at a dropzone). The only thing stopping you is your attitude toward yourself.

All that we are is the result of what we have thought…

The mind is everything. What we think we become. ~Buddha

I apologize for having been a little m.i.a. recently. Life happens, we get busy, it happens to the best of us. However, I have lots of exciting updates as a result… :)

What’s With the Handstands?

So for those of you that follow along my Instagram or Facebook pages, you may have noticed an abundance of handstand pictures. What’s the deal you ask? Well yogi Lauren Rudick put out a challenge for herself to handstand everyday for a year, and invited others to join in the fun. Naturally, I thought that sounded awesome and took her up on the challenge.

A Taste of Purity…

When people find out I skydive – voluntarily, over and over again – they always want to know why. Well, here is my answer, beautifully shot by BackToAwake… Jonathan was asked to make a video for one of my sponsors, Velocity Sports Equipment, who make my skydiving rig, the Infinity. The Internet is inundated with skydiving videos, but very few communicate to the rest of the world why it is we do what we do. Our sport we love so much isn’t always portrayed in the best light as it’s usually the incidents that are featured on the news, rather than the accomplishments. If all I saw and heard about driving was all the accidents and fatalities, I probably wouldn’t drive either.

The last year has brought about a lot of changes that ultimately have lead me to this really big one… Moving to Salt Lake City. I’ve grown up for the most part in Florida and after a few years in North Carolina, found myself back in FL again last year. I’ve always known that I didn’t want to stay there, even in grade school, but somehow kept ending up there. College because of scholarships, then I started skydiving and FL had ideal year round conditions, then there was a guy, the list goes on… And the whole time in the back of my mind I knew I wanted to see and do more. Experience more of what this amazing planet has to offer.

Schools Kill Creativity

March Madness Day 28:

This is one of my favorite TED Talks. However, it doesn’t just stop at schools. So many kids are immersed in technology and devices at such an early age. I don’t have anything against technology, but what happened to just being a kid? Running around outside, racing bikes like you’re a Formula One driver, and pretending you’re exploring a faraway land in your backyard has been traded in for “interactive” games on a tablet.

Just say NO to GMO!

March Madness Day 22:

Genetic engineering is becoming more and more prevalent. The long-term effects of consuming GMO products are still unknown. However, it isn’t looking promising. Just my personal opinion (I think many agree), but when lots of money is involved (especially when it comes to making it) the best interest and well-being of the masses is seldom the priority (if at all). It’s about profit and control, which ultimately leads to power. I won’t get too in depth as everyone needs to come to their own conclusions, but I encourage you to keep an open mind and do your own research. Today’s video is just a very brief highlight of what’s happening to get you started.
